Damon Surzyshyn is a Canadian race car driver from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He has been very involved in car racing in a variety of levels, and is focused on continuing racing at the professional level in the Pirelli World Challenge.
Damon has always had a passion for motor sports and got his first taste, as most drivers do, starting with go karts. After completing the Jim Russell Race School at Mt Tremblant he was hooked. This was his first time driving open wheel and he loved the thrill of the F2000 cars. After his initial exposure to competitive car racing, he joined the Winnipeg Sports Car Club first competing in Autocross, then working his way up to racing Formula Vee, which is another open wheel race series. Damon’s first year in Formula Vee was a great success with podium finishes, and winning the Rookie of the Year award. Over the long winter months, he has competed in Ice Racing.
After enjoying success at the club level, Damon set his sights on competing in professional touring car racing. He competed in the 2014 Pirelli World Challenge TCB series, as part of the opening race at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. He fell in love with the atmosphere, the excitement and the level of competition at the Pirelli World Challenge.
The goal of DS Racing is to continue to compete in the Pirelli World Challenge, and become a contender in this highly competitive series. His continued success would not be able to happen without the support of his sponsors.
Damon believes in giving back to his community and is heavily involved with supporting charities including Beyond Borders, Ndinawe, Winnipeg Harvest, WISE Kid-Netic, Canadian Cancer Society and more. He is in his third year on the board of directors for the Winnipeg Sports Car Club, managing their promotions. When not racing cars, Damon runs a full-service production company Nomad Digital specializing in commercial, corporate, documentary and television production.
